Personal Planning
In "Guide to Getting it right for every child" (GIRFEC), (Scottish Government 2008), it says that children, young people and their families will "feel confident about the help they are getting", "understand what is happening and why", feel they have been "listened to carefully and their wishes have been heard and understood" and that they are "appropriately involved in discussions and decisions that affect them". (p8)
This will involve careful listening to children and young people when assessing their needs across the Scottish well-being indicators (that children are safe, healthy, achieving, nurtured, active, included, respected and responsible); recognising the strengths and pressures in their lives around the 'My world triangle' and in planning how partners to a child's plan will work together to bring about better outcomes for that child.
Each child or young person, however young or however significant their learning or communication challenges, can be involved in making personal choices if careful attention is given to the expressions they are able to offer.
