What?

What have children and young people said about involvement and participation?


Highland Youth Voice and Highland Children's Forum Snakes and Ladders Workshop
The three ladders identified by the young people as helpful to involvement were:


1. Inclusion 

"consider individual needs"

"include people as though nothing is different"

"mentoring schemes for people with problems"


2. Participation

"fun activities for everyone to get involved with"

"being talkative, full of ideas and life"

"smiles, approachable friendly folk"


3. Results -

"ideas are acted on"

"leads to positive results"

"MAKE THINGS HAPPEN"


The three snakes identified by young people were:


1. Lack of confidence

"people lacking confidence or shy"

"need people without difficulties to interact with people who have difficulty"


2. Stereotyping

"by how they dress or whatever"

"low expectations of young people"


3. Dashed hopes

"ask what you think but do nothing"

Who else is listening to children and young people?

 

Being listened to makes you feel important. I wouldn’t want to listen to a teacher if she didn’t listen to me.
